TREATMENT OF OCD WITH CBT & ACCEPTANCE COMMITMENT THERAPY
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), is another form of CBT and is used as an adjunct to ERP in the treatment for OCD. The focus of ACT is driven by personal values and what's important to you. ACT allows people with OCD to change their relationship with their thoughts, and learn new ways to relate to their thoughts, feelings, and sensations. With ACT strategies, you learn to respond to the anxiety in a different manner, becoming an observer of your thoughts. You can learn how to step back and notice your thoughts and emotions, and make choices about whether or not to respond to its content. Mindfulness and Self-Compassion play important roles in ACT as well.
