TREATMENT OF OCD WITH CBT & ACCEPTANCE COMMITMENT THERAPY
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), is another form of CBT and is used as an adjunct to ERP in the treatment for OCD. The focus of ACT is driven by personal values and what's important and meaningful to you. ACT allows people with OCD to change their relationship with their thoughts, and learn new and more helpful ways to relate to thoughts, feelings, and physiological sensations. With ACT strategies, you learn to respond to the anxious or obsessive thoughts in a different manner, becoming an observer of your thoughts. You learn how to step back and notice your thoughts and emotions, and then make choices about whether or not to respond to its content. Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, and Self-Kindness play important roles in ACT as well.
